The June L. Mazer Lesbian Archive and UCLA Library  Partnership Program

On November 5, 2009, The June L. Mazer Lesbian Archive joined forces with the UCLA Library in an monumental outreach and collection-building partnership.

The partnership grew out of a project initiated by the UCLA Center for the Study of Women to inventory, organize, preserve, and digitize several of the Mazer Archive’s key Los Angeles-themed collections.

Beginning with the first grant in 2009, the UCLA Center for the Study of Women and the UCLA Library  processed and digitized five (5) of the major collections held at the June L. Mazer Lesbian Archives (click here to see the collections).

Since then, more grant money has been secured and the UCLA Library has now processed over 80 more collections donated to the Mazer Archives.

This makes it possible to ensure that our Lesbian history will be accessible to the world!

Furthermore, the partnership is so very important (and exciting!) because the collections now have state of the art preservation as well as expand the pool of primary source materials available to researchers and to the community at large.

All collections processed by UCLA are covered by a Deed of Gift Agreement and Collaboration Agreement between the June L. Mazer Lesbian Archives and UCLA  (click to view PDF of these agreements.)

Click here to see the individual finding aids for those collections by typing the collection name into the OAC search.

If you would like to be part of the exciting business of getting our history out of our closets and garages and onto the internet, please donate to the June L. Mazer Lesbian Archives TODAY! Empower yourself and other women after you!

As Joan De Artemis recently said,“I forget sometimes, what we do is important. We are making history. I’m still making history, right now, today. We think we are just living our lives, but future generations are going to look back at us and say “Wow.”
